Denoun N Deverb
In 2004, Denoun N
Deverb, a two year old thoroughbred racehorse, came to our
facility with advancing ankle problems due to a slight
malformation of her left front leg. Owned by Dwight
Espenschied and Dr. Robert Bockel, they had been advised
that her ankles would not hold up to the stress of racing,
and to steer her to another, less demanding career.
As a two year old,
this horse had shown tremendous potential and heart, already
with earnings of $25,000 under her belt. Dwight and Dr.
Bockel were not ready to give up too soon, however, and
decided to try the equiciser as a last resort
Working with a
veterinarian and also trainer Leroy Hellman, Deverb started
a program that consisted of a period of rest, followed by
controlled exercise on the equiciser, and extensive
attention was paid to her ankles. We followed this
protocol until March of 2005, when Deverb resumed racing.
And the rest is history. Denoun N Deverb’s earnings in
2005 totaled well over $140,000, with her biggest win being
the Powerless Handicap held in Chicago on November 15.
Her ankles have given her only mild trouble since then, but
easily managed with ice boots and an occasional leg sweat.
To date, she has made just shy of $200,000.
